Renowned artist Darryl McDaniels, affectionately known by fans worldwide as DMC of Run-DMC, is set to be a featured speaker at the inaugural New Jersey Higher Education Mental Health Summit. This prestigious event, hosted by Seton Hall University at their South Orange campus, is a significant stride towards promoting mental health awareness in higher education.

The event will have an auspicious start with New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor, Tahesha Way, delivering the opening remarks. Following her, Sara Klein, Vice President of Student Affairs at Stevens Institute of Technology, will have the honor of introducing the keynote speaker, DMC.

DMC has consistently been a fervent advocate for mental health, tirelessly working towards destigmatizing mental illness. His memoir, Ten Ways Not To Commit Suicide, serves as a testament to his commitment to this cause. The book not only allowed DMC a cathartic outlet to discuss his past struggles, but it also became a crucial resource for those grappling with depression and addiction.

The inaugural New Jersey Higher Education Mental Health Summit, scheduled for January 10, promises to be a monumental event, fostering an open dialogue about mental health in higher education. It is events like these that highlight the increasing relevance and urgency of mental health discourse in our society today.
