Timbaland Headlines Songwriting Legends to be Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame

In an exciting announcement for the world of music, the Songwriters Hall of Fame has unveiled their inductees for the 2024 Induction and Awards Gala. The new inductees include stellar musicians Hillary Lindsey, Timothy Mosley, better known as Timbaland, Dean Pitchford, Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Michael Stipe, collectively known as R.E.M., and Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, popularly recognized as Steely Dan.

These world-class songwriters carry an impressive repertoire, penning mega-hits such as “Jesus Take The Wheel,” “Big Pimpin’,” “Footloose,” “Losing My Religion,” and “Reelin’ in the Years.” Their powerful lyrics and unforgettable tunes have left an indelible mark on the music industry, influencing generations of musicians and resonating with audiences worldwide.

The grand event is set to take place on Thursday, June 13th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, where these icons will be honored for their immense contribution to the art of songwriting.

SHOF Chairman Nile Rodgers expressed his respect for the inductees, saying, “Without songwriters delivering great songs first, there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch…nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.” He noted that the 2024 inductees represent diversity across genres, ethnicity, and gender, underlining the unity within the music industry.

The 2024 inductees are recognized for a host of iconic songs. Hillary Lindsey’s notable works include “Jesus Take The Wheel” and “Girl Crush”, while Timbaland’s hits include “SexyBack” and “Get Ur Freak On”. Dean Pitchford is known for “Footloose” and “Fame”, R.E.M. for “Losing My Religion” and “Everybody Hurts”, and Steely Dan for “Reelin’ in the Years” and “My Old School”. The induction is an acknowledgment of their enduring legacies and a celebration of the power of songwriting.
