Young Deuces remains one of the best but most slept on artists in the game. But he shouldn’t lose any sleep at night, because he is laying it all on the line talking about what is really going on. To me that puts him up there with the elite lyricists and has earned the respect of true hip-hop fans because he hasn’t sold his soul. So it is not surprising that the blueprint is no different on his latest work, All I Ever Wanted Was An Opportunity.
The 11-track LP is combination of ambition, strife and still a hopeful outlook. YD is joined by some some more dope emcees, like Grafh, Burgie Streetz, Eazy Hayes and Michael Christmas. He also recruited some smooth voices with Princess beverly Ann on Grass Ain’t Greener” and Dear Silas on “No Mercy”.
The entire project is solid from end to end, but a few standouts are “Breathe” with Grafh, where they flipped the beat from Fabolous’ 2004 hit. And “Hold it Down” where Young Deuces trades bars with Michael Christmas and his SNYD Partner Burgie Streetz for a feel-good summertime record.
