Sway in the Morning took over the Motor City and got a front row seat for some of the best hyenas in their city. We all know how many dope MCs have come from the area, not to mention two of the greatest lyricists ever in Eminem and Royce Da 5’9. As hip hop continues to evolve, it’s the younger generation’s job to push things forward creatively and projects such as VERSES are definitely playing a huge role in making sure that happens.
What is VERSES? It’s a 15-week literacy based music program that teaches kids aged 10-18 the art of songwriting, composing, performing, wordsmithing, mixing and the latest technology. Who better to partner with in the city than the Marshall Mathers Foundation when it comes to the technical skill of rap? What makes the program even more special as our guest Will Lankford points out is it actively gives that young group a platform to creatively express themselves. We tend to want to provide results and better solutions for those younger than us but it’s important to actually hear what they have to say about things effecting their age group. How do we do that? Through these type of programs, make sure you swing by their website for more information after checking out the interview above.
