Every year we seem to get blessed with amazing talent out of Chicago, Illinois. Brittney Carter a hip-hop lyricist from the Southside of Chicago, caught the attention of many when she released a video of her freestyling over a Kendrick Lamar instrumental. Her flow and sound is something we currently don’t see in hip-hop often. She grew up listening to legends such as Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Nas, and Eminem. The people that served as music influences in her life has definitely shaped her sound but still stays authentic to her true self.
She always had the skill but it wasn’t until 4 years ago she started to become serious about taking her craft to the next level. She has always had a strong interest in poetry and reading and believes that “these things are very important factors when it comes to picking up a pen”, Brittney stated. Last November she opened up for J Roc and this May she had the privilege to open up for Jay Electronica. Within this past year, she has become more connected within the music community, where she has built relationships with rapper Reason and other talented producers and artists.
Brittney drops freestyles on social media often and performs at local venues around Chicago to make sure she is consistently putting in the effort to build her sound and providing the opportunity for more people to experience the authentic music style she possess. She is working on her first body of work that is set to drop mid-October. The title of her project has not been officially announced but we all can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve.
