Steve Aoki, one of the highest-paid DJs in the world, stopped by Sway in the Morning to talk about his new Netflix document, “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” — an extremely close-up look at his real life off the stage.
Coming from a family of riches, the son of the founder of the famous Japanese restaurant, Benihana, Steve tells us he started his career and record label on his own – not a cent from his father. But what he did get from his dad was the value of a dollar, a sick work ethic and discipline.
As an internationally known superstar DJ, Steve admits to have drank heavily before each gig to let some nerves loose, but after the death of his best friend, DJ AM, he immediately quit — saying it made him become a sharper DJ because of it.
Watch above as he opens up about his parents, his new music and why he decided to do this doc. Catch “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” on Netflix now!
