The good folks over at Spotify are back and look to try out something new in the world of streaming music. Today the word on the e-streets is that Spotify Is Testing Sponsored Songs. This new feature allows labels to promote singles on playlists for a price and according to TechCruch, the “Sponsored Song” ad unit is “a product test for labels to promote singles on the free tier.”
If these tests are successful, the new Sponsored Songs would officially roll out, but only to users on the free tier. There is also an “opt-out” option found under Sponsored Content in the settings menu, which allows users to hide such content. As of now, it is unclear whether this option would appear to the service’s free users or not. Interesting news to say the least, but what do you think?
