Skyzoo just released a new song called “A Song For Fathers.” His inspiration was to make a theme song for fellow dads to celebrate on Father’s Day. Following in the footsteps of songs that celebrates motherhood, Skyzoo felt as if songs celebrating fatherhood have been few and far between. The song was produced by !llmind, who’s been a frequent collaborator of Skyzoo. He went to him for two reasons: one is his specialty is bringing an artist idea to life. And two, he makes music due to his dad having been a musician in his own right.
“In our current climate as a people, the reality of families being left without a father is deafening. Due to all of the social injustices that are ringing louder than ever, we’re seeing the impact of fathers being stripped away from their loved ones. Although I wrote this record way before our current events began to take place (summer ‘19), the timing is eerily spot-on. This is one of my favorite records I’ve ever written, and if it somehow becomes the record I’m most known for down the line, I couldn’t be prouder” Skyzoo commented on his new single.
When asked what was the idea for the project, Skyzoo said, “The idea for this project came to me from noticing the landscape of how fathers are represented in hip hop. Outside of Will Smith’s classic “Just The Two Of Us” and a handful of others, the majority of the records in hip hop that speak on fatherhood have a negative connotation. I wanted to change that narrative, as it’s not the only one that exists.” Skyzoo can be quoted saying.
Now Skyzoo is looking to drop an EP on Fathers Day called “Milstones.” This conceptual album will focus on different stages of his life growing up. He put together this EP with intentions of telling a story through songs that go hand to hand. Skyzoo has one message he’s trying to send, and that’s the importance of being a dad, having a dad and growing up with a dad. A closing message from Skyzoo “To all of the fathers out there who are lovingly and actively doing the work—this one is for us.”
