Crooning hit after hit with The Pointer Sisters, Ruth Pointer has a brand new book out about her incredible journey through life. Detailing the ups and downs, Pointer holds nothing back while in the Sway in the Morning studios.
Born and raised in Oakland, Pointer and Sway instantly bond and even take a call from Sway’s mother who is a huge fan. With four girls and two boys in the Pointer family, Ruth details her time in high school and even getting her father kicked out of their church for having ‘wayward’ children. Picking up the art of voice blending while singing in the church, Pointer jokes about having to sing boring hymns while her and her sisters wished to sing powerful gospel songs.
From jokes and laughs to a more serious tone, Pointer speaks on her sister June seeking help after succumbing to sexual assault as a teenager. Recalling being in an abusive marriage herself, Pointer candidly speaks on her drug addiction and how she recovered to care for her children.
While picking questions from Sway’s ‘mystery sack,’ Pointer is chooses a question that is tough at first but turns into a touching story about her late friend Natalie Cole. Check out the full interview and head to Amazon to order Pointer’s new book “Still So Excited!”
