What’s up citizens this ya guy Rob Markman with The Rob Report, where we break down music for the game’s hottest artists. Last week we checked out Vince Staples Summertime 06 and this week we’re going to head to the ATL to check out one of the hottest release of the year Future’s Dirty Sprite 2.
After a bit of disappointment on his last album Honest, Future went back to the drawing board and killed the mixtape scene. So it’s no surprise that for his third album, Future Hendrix returns to the tape that made this all possible. DS2 makes no compromise. On the opening track “thought It was a drought”, Future taunts the pharmaceutical companies that reportedly took a popular brand of codeine off the shelf. Oh yeah, he also had sex with your girl.
As a fan you have to understand, you aren’t going to Future for expert lyricism, but that doesn’t make him any less important. DS2 has a unique vibe that a legion of rappers try to follow, but none can duplicate. “Blood on the Money” is a laundry list of drug dealer problems, while “Blow a Bag” picks up where “Commas” left off. “Stick Talk” is kinetic and “Where Ya At” with Drake is just dope.
If you aren’t already a Future fan Dirty Sprite 2 will do little to change your mind, but if you’re part of the Future Hive, then this is your undisputed album of the year and you’ve already made to the meme to prove it. The thing is, the truth is somewhere in the middle, so I’m going to give Future a 7.5 out of 10 on this. Some of y’all will say that’s too high, while others will surely argue that I short-changed Hendrix… wherever you stand, hit me on twitter @RobMarkman. I talk back.
