Principal Cook on “Lights on Program” for Students After Hours + Oprah Donating $500k

You may have seen a story circulating virally last year of a Principal installing washer machines on his High School campus for students to wash their clothes and eliminate absent days.

Well that Principal is Akbar Cook of Westside High in New Jersey, and he has a program called the ‘Lights on Program’ where they’ve created after hours programs for students — a safe haven from unsafe street activities.

Principal Cook came by Sway in the Morning to proudly share that Oprah Winfrey has donated a half a million dollars to his program, along with $100k from Ellen DeGenerous.

Watch below as he speaks on how he plans on extending his program to cities across the United States.
