Oswin Benjamin got his shot by being a replacement emcee in a Friday Fire Cypher alongside Kay Shine and DNA back in 2015. As soon as he opened his mouth it was clear that he was much more than just a fill-in.
This four year growth period has proven to help harness that raw talent of a true lyricist, as he has spit on every platform large and small. With some major milestones like linking up with Denzil Porter and Chris Rivers to shut down the Team Back Pack cypher. He paired with RodTheProducer to re-imagine some of the classics like Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones” or simply going in on J.Cole’s “Middle Child”.

We got a taste of what a project from Oz would sound like with his 6-track EP Hueman in 2017. But that seems light years away as today he releases his official debut album Godfrey which has so many layers, some won’t get the bars on the first listen. Oswin came back to where it all started, Sway In The Morning to talk about that growth period and the defining moments of creating this classic.
The 11-track LP only features Styles P, Leviticus G. Bradshaw with production credits to RodTheProducer for 10 tracks and Justen Williams producing the latest single “Yessuh”. Godfrey is available on all streaming platforms everywhere now! Check here for your preferred platform.
