0:23
Full Spectrum you came out on stage with Nicki Minaj uhhuh what is it the difference like is is it a those levels
0:30
sexy red is the New Sensation and yeah yeah shout out to sexy red she doing her thing definitely you know um she killed
0:37
it you know she had it packed out uh we was at when Nikki brought me out we was at the Wells Fargo when sexy real
0:42
brought me out out we was at the lore Center that's where uh Temple basketball play okay you know she packed that joint
0:48
out they came out for her turned up for her what's the difference I know you you you studied this game when you look out
0:55
at the crowd how are the crowds different right uh I mean the Wells Fargo is like two times bigger than uh
1:04
than a Le cour Center but you know Nikki she got a dieh hard fan base and she been around for a minute you know she
1:10
got songs that people done live with for years so you know they screaming them Jones at the top of their lungs for sexy
1:16
red to be a new artist and the impact that she made on hip-hop is amazing like it took me a minute to be able to sell
1:23
out uh a venue like that by myself you know I'm saying my head off to her she
1:28
had uh she had Kodak Black Wier too she brought out a couple other Philly artists she brought out core she brought
1:34
out ot7 Quin you know she brought out JT so seeing her and JT on stage together that was pretty she did it right right
1:40
did she sit you down and say hey man what's some game you can give me no not really you know okay you know new artist
1:46
you know she she she living in her Limelight you know she got a lot going on so I appreciate them reaching out to
1:52
me to bring me out what about n but I'm pretty sure we'll chop it up I'm sure Nikki I mean I feel like you and Nikki should have went straight to the studio
1:58
I told Nikki I need a verse so you know what she say she said she got me so you know we going to make it happen God
2:04
willing okay let's get it man uhhuh all right freeway is here man last uh time you came we that was we kicked off the
2:11
new segment what kind of feeling healthier with freeway what kind of I know I got tremendous response from it
2:16
yeah me too I got a I got a great response from it man it's something that's definitely needed in the community man and like we were saying
2:22
before we uh went on air it's not too many people talking about these topics on on radio or period you know you know
2:30
the day freeway day we kicked off this uh this segment freeway called me later in the day and it was so ironic it was
2:38
it it was just kind of beautiful and then all of a sudden it was the storm and you had told me on that day yeah
2:44
that a close friend of yours had passed away yeah close friend of mine um her name is rashina finnessy and um she was
2:51
battling breast cancer and I met her because her daughter had a liver transplant and um they had a a a fund
2:58
for her daughter and you know we connected because I had a kidney transplant and you know uh throughout my
3:03
journey you know she was someone that was very knowledgeable like you know and she if you had a question about health
3:10
she she could give it to you right then and there if she didn't know the information she would look it up so she
3:15
fought a a hard battle with her daughter and then she had a daughter she had another daughter and uh I remember she
3:23
thought she had a clogged milk duck and she went to the hospital she like yeah I just got a clogged milk duck I'm going to the hospital next thing you know she
3:29
had breast cancer oh she had to get one of her breasts removed and she was actually in remission then you know it
3:36
came back with a vengeance and the same day that we that we launched fing heal for your freeway she passed away like
3:41
3:00 that day wow that's that's more the reason why we got to continue to do this
3:47
it was rough man cuz like she was there like when my when my um my son passed away she was there and when my me and my
3:54
daughter was was battling cancer like she was there with information like trying to help us like you know and
4:00
it's just it's just very sad man and she like I said she she had her daughter asiah then she had a brand new baby
4:07
that's like three years old like you know and when I was at the funeral I'm just looking at the baby like I know how
4:12
much she love her and like she's never never going to see her again you know cancer man uh you you lost your daughter
4:19
to cancer yeah I lost my daughter to cancer man this uh my daughter had a rare cancer cause
4:24
saroma so uh nobody survived at cancer like you know uh when we were we were
4:30
talking to the doctors and everything they was like yeah some people couple people live like 15 years so you know we
4:37
were hopeful we were praying we were rumbling you know um it it came to a point where she had
4:43
tumors everywhere like you know there was in her brain they was like in her back like she uh she was such a fighter
4:51
man like she uh she had to get an operation on her back cuz she had a tumor on her back and they told her she wasn't going to be able to walk again
4:58
and um if y'all follow me on Instagram y'all probably see me post a picture of her getting up and walking with the
5:04
Walker and like the everybody believed in her man and it was just like you
5:10
know and I remember we we came to a point one day she was like that I think
5:15
the doctors is giving up on me and that right there was
5:20
like then it came to a point where like I knew she was we knew she wasn't going to make it so all I could do is like
5:26
prepare her for what I know islamically and what she need to do like you know to
5:31
to be prepared for the next life and that right
5:36
there like one of the hardest things I had to do in my life I was right there with her
5:42
when she took her last breath and like it went from she just
5:48
started college she just started Cabrini and we were excited like she moved in even though the college was like 30
5:54
minutes from my crib she wanted to live on on campus so we made sure she did that and like you know she had her first
6:00
year of college then Co hit we both caught Co together and uh she was having
6:05
back issues um she kept going to One hospital and they was telling her nothing was wrong with her then we took
6:11
her to pen that's like the main hospital in Philadelphia and that's when they diagnosed with cancer
6:17
September of uh September of 2020 then you know my son died October of 2020 and
6:23
then right after that we was right back fighting trying to you know trying to pray for the best for her
6:30
yeah like you know I think she received the best in you though under the under the circumstances I want to salute you
6:37
you know as a father and a guardian just as a human being all that you've endured with your kids and up until this point I
6:44
remember being on Zoom with your daughter yeah man I appreciate you man you Uncle sway yeah I said I'm Uncle
6:51
Sway and not only you though man a lot of people like genuine people embraced us like you know what I mean embrac her
6:57
and really help make her feel good man well this should be making her feel good your son feel good the way you doing
7:03
this and you and you taking these situ these scenarios and you making something out of it by doing this segment so I
7:08
commend you man feeling healthier with with freeway amen and that's I think that's the topic today is you wanted to
7:15
talk about cancer right yeah most definitely like so many so many people are affected by cancer like in 2024 over
7:22
2 million people will be diagnosed with cancer in the United States W 2 million 2 million 20 in one year in one year
7:30
like and they they're using these statistics we halfway through the year you know so they can predict how the
7:36
rest of the year is going to go like you know and it it's crazy like these these facts are crazy wow 2 million an
7:43
estimated 6,720 people will die from cancer in the United States this
7:55
people so what that means too is the reason why I'm happy you bringing this up is this cancer is something that
8:02
affects us all there's not many families that haven't been adjacent to it or dealing with it personally or dealing
8:09
with somebody in their family dealing with it and there's no classes on how to deal with it like what you went through
8:14
right now what you went through in the past you could offer you could actually offer some insight to people maybe not
8:20
the person who has cancer but the person who's caretaking the person with cancer friends family definitely alike and so
8:28
what I want to do is open up phone lines to people who may have a similar story right and you may need some insight and
8:35
you may need some comfort you know and so freeway you invited a friend of yours a therapist right yes sir I got a
8:42
therapist that's going to call up Dante Barfield yeah Dante brafield he he's an expert therapist and you know when you
8:48
dealing with these things they affect your mental health yeah like like I told
8:54
you my we just was cool we just was happy she just started started uh College like like we were in a great
9:00
space she was a a student like you know everybody embraced her like at at her
9:06
funeral like her friends from college
9:14
like they like put they like surrounded [Music]
9:20
me and they were just telling me how how good of a heart she had and how much she loved
9:26
me like these things affect people like you know they all were herur they loved
9:32
her they always was affected we went from her being some of the happiest
9:38
times in her life she's starting College she's getting ready to start her future like she made it she graduated high
9:43
school to now we're fighting cancer in one day like we went to the hospital in
9:48
one day everything flipped and changed in one day then if you're not
9:54
strong that that right there a tear person apart you know like it's serious
9:59
yeah I want to man thank you for sharing too freeway I want to open up the phone lines cuz I know there are
10:05
people who can relate to what you've gone through in their own way you might need some information yeah you're right
10:13
you might need some therapy we got Dante yep Dante Barfield is here he's a a
10:24
888742410 Round of Applause man we got freeway up in here you sure our new
10:29
segment feeling healthier with freeway we do it once a month he's a resident this is a resident right here freeway
10:35
love it you don't even ask him to kick bars Heather you know I will though I know
10:42
that's right so I don't have to ask the true MC quintessential right here but a
10:48
beautiful human being who has U been constantly sharing with us um a lot of
10:53
trials and tribulations he's gone through with in life with his kids and with his health hether and this and and
10:59
with others Health as well which isn't an easy topic but it's something that we all have to cope with at some point or
11:07
another you know definitely right whether it's your grandparents your great parents your auntie cousin sister
11:13
brother whatever or friend and today we're talking about cancer and freeway has been very transparent about his
11:18
experience with cancer his daughter's experience as well um his friend that he
11:24
lost experience as well as many others his son's experiences with health issues
11:29
as well and so and uh me being a a kidney transplant recipient some of the
11:35
uh medications that I take on a bottle is say can cause cancer so wow you know
11:40
when I do my yearly I have to get checked for cancer I got to get checked for skin cancer I got to get butt necked
11:46
and they check everywhere like everywhere like what you mean like everywhere everywhere like butt necked
11:52
everywhere yeah wherever it's skin that's where they check that's where they check wow so all right well I I had
11:58
to get comfortable with you know nudity right cuz like especially as a man yeah serious
12:06
what what is that process like do they put you through a machine or they hand checking no they they physically just like check you you know check you what
12:12
do they check for asy like pigments in your skin like any any changes in your skin like even like if I see like if I
12:20
notice something on my skin like like you might get a bruise or or a scar or something but like if I notice something
12:26
in my skin and it's consistent or something that's not Chang like a pigment or something then I have to let
12:31
them know and I have to come in okay you know so they can examine it and whenever I'm in the sun I got to make sure that I
12:37
have uh sun block on yep had to toe freeway is here and all of this information we got a phone panel that's
12:44
lit right now cuz I know it's people listening to you that are saying wow sounds like my story sounds like my
12:50
story so we're going to hear your stories but we invited Dante Barfield who's a therapist out of Philadelphia to
12:56
join us it's a licensed professional counselor Ma c c LPC I don't know what
13:01
those abbreviations stand for but it sound like that man put in a lot of work I want to welcome him to the show Dr
13:06

13:26
just listen to free you know just listening to you just on the line man I just my heart goes out to you thank Youk
13:33
um Dr Barfield um how long you been practicing man I've been practicing all man a good eight years now you know I
13:40
solid eight years yeah graduated in 2016 I and I just been grinding you know I
13:45
started from the bottom and now I just operate my own practice and I can see people like that that look like myself
13:51
you know uh Brown skinn Beautiful individuals that uh not too many of us are out there that uh do this work so um
13:58
I'm very blessed very very very very very blessed uh I want to give out your information too for people to do their
14:05
own vetting process they you know if they may want to talk to you because I know some of your Specialties are life
14:10
transitions depression trauma and PS PTSD addiction anxiety codependency
14:17
coping skills family conflict grief you you you specialize in all these things right yes this is my main focus you know
14:25
um I guess uh losing my mother at 6 years old from cancer definitely kind of put me on my own journey to make sure
14:31
that if I'm going to help people I want to focus on the on the one thing that I know um help make
14:38
me people sorry for your loss um thank you man I appreciate that and H off to
14:44
the people that you know turn lemons in lemonade you know talk about that pass off to people you know that's what you
14:50
doing we easily easily could CRA crawl in the hole and just like you know turn
14:55
the world off but you know we choose to you know try to help and try to better the world man hat off to the people
15:01
that's like that Dr uh Barfield if you don't mind freeway has solicited a lot of callers from all over the country
15:08

Dante Barfield D NT Barfield b a r f i l
15:55
d our first caller we have on the line is Sabrina from Las Vegas Sabrina welcome to the show hey Sabrina hi
16:02
Sabrina what's up Sabrina hi thank you hey hey fre this Sabrina man it's your
16:07
segment go ahead what's up Sabrina how you feeling I'm good I'm good I was just
16:13
listening to your story and you know it hit me right in the fields because my
16:19
aunt had saroma too in her abdomen oh wow back in
16:24
2019 and she passed in 2020 3 days before Christmas MH and my understanding
16:32
and belief was that hers was treatable she could have had a surgery that could
16:38
have cleared the primary tumor with clear margins but
16:43
because her husband didn't think and others didn't think that she would
16:49
survive the recovery part of the surgery that idea was
16:54
abandoned and oh that was heartbreaking I can I can imagine cuz with my daughter like
17:02
she she had the first surgery and it was helpful like I told y'all she was able to get up and start walking again so
17:08
when she got some more tumors and things started to progress she felt like she could just get another surgery and
17:14
things would get better again you know but uh it got to a point where it was
17:19
tumors everywhere but you know we should never give up like you know if if we feel strongly about something we should
17:26
never give up we should always try to you know try to push cuz at the end of the day God is in control how how's your
17:32
family doing now Sabrina uh and how how's your family recovering from your
17:37
Aunt H well I would say since most of my
17:42
family is older than I am I mean I got first cousins that are in their 60s and I'm 32 I'm 34 I'm sorry and so they're
17:51
they're doing okay but it's me who's I guess I get stuck in the feeling
17:59
of it was treatable well you know could have been here and that happens D on Dr
18:06
Barfield you wanna you want to talk with Sabrina about that oh yeah oh Sabrina you are you are sitting me down with
18:12
this one thing if you were to type it up it would say the bargaining stage you know that could have should have would have stay that part of this when you you
18:19
have a lot of information about maybe what you could have stopped or we had this information beforehand the doctors
18:25
could have treated this could have treated that um it's one of the I'll say
18:31
the the part of grief where we like to sit in because we can rationalize saving
18:37
people's lives um the hardest part about that is there's no such thing as bargaining with with death you know um
18:44
cancer doesn't have a solution um we have a equation of Hope
18:52
and that's what we live in as those who support those who get cancer but the one thing that we cannot control it's just
18:59
the power of it and and part of me is just sitting even with you saying um that it could have been prevented and
19:05
yes you are right you are so right and I think just being able to validate that truth to just know that um what could
19:13
have happened hasn't and being able to live with that for the rest of your life
19:19
knowing knowing knowing sometimes through this
19:24
grief process can be the hardest part when you move through this bargaining stage I because I promise you you will
19:32
um you let me know how it feels when you come out okay Sabrina thank you for will
19:37
thank you s sorry for your loss okay thank you I'm sorry for your loss too as well y'all take care all right take care
19:44
all right thank you Sabrina all right we have uh Avery on the line from Cleveland
19:49
a Avery how you doing Avery hey Avery hey Avery good good morning fam how
19:54
y'all doing this morning peace Avery how you feeling um I'm I'm hanging in there um was it
20:02
Kanani that answered the phone Kanani yep thank you again for your kindness
20:07
colani I appreciate you that's up and and um I was just listening to y'all and
20:14
oh freeway nice talking to you and I want to say um I'm sorry for your loss
20:20
thank you and um I was telling Kanani before he put me
20:27
on hold that um my mother was um battling
20:34
cancer I don't know exactly the technical term I just know that um I think it was
20:42
her thyroid um there was like a growth on it
20:48
and when they went to remove it they found it well they found the cancer
20:53
remove most of it but it was like pretty aggressive and she went through all them
20:58
chemo treatments and all that and whatnot and
21:05
um sadly she um passed away last week oh so so sorry
21:13
for your loss yes all of us so sorry for your loss um I I want to U Dante Dr
21:20
Dante Barfield uh I I see we we having a lot of folks like I don't know if we anticipated this you know but it's a lot
21:27
of people going through pain right because of the loss of a loved one through cancer um and you talked about
21:34
that bargaining stage even for Avery this is fresh and we sorry for your loss Avery um thank you what are some what
21:41
are some tactics we could use as a community you know that where we could face this on a day-to-day basis and like
21:49
you said get past that bargaining stage are there steps are there programs people could um
21:55
follow there are steps there are programs I mean one I can just talk about which is the easiest for me is
22:00
just you know reaching out to a professional but I just kind of want to sit with the access to anything like
22:07
that and just kind of call out this this show right now this is it having an outlet in the safe space to talk to feel
22:15
safe and to be heard this isn't a common thing that we have and what you're going through right now this happening so soon
22:21
you need a space to be heard and just be felt like me free and sway aren't going
22:27
to we can't solve but what we can do which is genuine is feel it and we can feel it with you and when that happens
22:34
right now any any grief anybody who dies in a moment you give it within a week or two it is the most painful experience
22:42
doing it together is the number one tactic finding someone some space the
22:49
fact that you are allowing people to call in to speak about this is it this is what we need more of if we had more
22:56
people doing stuff like this it would be a lot better but this is the best tactic number two though I'll say reach out to
23:02
friends um reach out to family reach out to people who are willing to sit with
23:08
you during this pain and do not do it alone never ever do this alone okay Dr
23:14
Barfield is with us that's so true the day the day my daughter died like my
23:19
homies just came like my close friends just came and just sat with me man and I just was able to sleep cuz I was like up
23:26
for days like but I know I didn't want to be by myself and like they just came
23:32
and just comforted me and I was just able to get some rest and know that people that really care about me was around me like when my dad died cuz my
23:40
dad died right in the house you know my dad died from um from dementia and
23:46
when they came to get his body everybody left and I was just there by myself like
23:51
wow like my dad just died in this Jone like I it took me a minute to even be
23:57
able to be in there after that comfortably by myself yeah um man thank you for
24:03
offering that too freeway uh Dr Barfield I'm going take one another caller one more caller who uh caller actually has
24:11
cancer to this day uh Lonnie what's our caller's name that's Angelia in Minnesota okay how you how you
24:18
doing good morning beautiful people how y'all doing family great I'm glad you
24:23
started to call with laughter we needed some of that we need some Joy some Joy
24:29
baby I appreciate it y'all know this y'all already know I'm a regular caller I love Sway and Tracy and Heather and
24:37
Lonnie and everybody else I love y'all so much I thank y'all for this platform and what y'all doing y'all have no idea
24:45
like the therapist said this is exactly what we need we need someone where we a
24:51
a space and place where we can actually speak in freeway I just want to say thank you for coming on and being so
24:57
transparent um for showing it's okay for a man to cry it's okay for a man to get emotional
25:03
it's okay for a man to speak on life because this is what we are all facing
25:09
daily you know um like myself um I'm a mom of three and I am battling metase
25:17
breast cancer I was diagnosed um my first time in 2014 just had surgery it
25:23
was very similar to the young lady that passed and I um sent her and her family love and peace thank you um it was just
25:30
in my ducks um so I just said you know I'm going make a decision I'm just going to have my breast removed so I don't
25:36
have to go through this again right because that's what they tell you it's a percentage and you know I'm like okay I was young you know I'm 41 now so 204 you
25:44
know just had a second child and you know I was fine I didn't have to do no
25:50
treatment no chemo no radiation I was free I didn't even have to go under oncologist care fast forward
25:58
um 20 you know 18 I'm doing my regular thing I like to kind of stay active and
26:04
you know live life I jump in the air and it was like somebody came up behind me
26:10
and hit me with the hammer in the middle of my back that's where it started I had went to the hospital there was no
26:17
treatment no type of um test done um in fact I was treated like a nobody hey it
26:24
just look like you may have pulled a muscle go ahead and just take some um I proen at home we're not going to give
26:29
you anything I was in pain and I'm the person that I've had three children no medicine and so I'm just a proactive
26:36
person uh I thank God for that so I went and seen someone else they did some
26:41
testing and that's how they found my cancer um it's metase breast cancer that spread to the back and my bone there's
26:48
really you know I I believe in God I believe in his power but what my treatment is is taking oral
26:56
chemotherapy um it's a treatment of seven days of these three tablets that I
27:01
have to take three weeks in a row um basically what that means is you know I don't I'm not a drinker at all it's very
27:08
occasion for me to have some wine or something but you definitely can have no alcohol during that time I have seven
