Before Michael Brown there was Eric Garner, a forty-three-year-old New York resident wrestled down to the ground on Staten Island after authorities claimed to have witnessed him selling cigarettes illegally. In a video of the July incident, one can see Officer Daniel Pantaleo place the man in a chokehold as the six foot, three inch tall man pleaded his case:
“I’m just here minding my own business, officer…Please, just leave me alone.! I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.”
Moments later he was dead; and less than a month later, an unarmed teen would be shot to death in Ferguson, Missouri.
Now much like the Brown case, a Grand Jury has decided that there will be no charges for the murder of Garner, as Officer Daniel Pantaleo will not be indicted in the death.
