Missy Elliott and A Tribe Called Quest take the lead for Hip Hop in this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations. The 2023 induction ceremony will feature music legends from Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine, Cyndi Lauper and Willie Nelson to Missy’s first-time nomination – qualifying as her debut album was released 25 years ago. This is a testament to how iconic anthems by these artists remain timelessly popular today!
Hip Hop fans everywhere held their breath for the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, with A Tribe Called Quest’s nomination barely missing the mark. However, Hip Hop icon Eminem made his way into history books on this year’s ballot as he earned more than 685 thousand fan votes and became a member – second only to Duran Duran.
Missy and ATCQ could soon be inducted into iconic status, joining the ranks of some of hip hop’s greatest acts in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. In 2007 Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five broke this barrier as Hip Hop’s first nominees to enter; since then a steady stream has followed with notable names like Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy plus N.W.A., 2Pac and Biggie making up just part of its illustrious list – including JAY-Z. This momentous news comes on top an already significant recognition from authorities earlier this year when both Wu Tang Clan’s Enter:The 36 Chambers album along with The Low End Theory by Tribe were honored amongst only twenty five other pieces archived at America’s Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
Get ready for a night of rock and roll greatness! May marks the announcement of this year’s class entering into musical immortality in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Later on, during fall, there will be an induction ceremony to commemorate these legendary artists – don’t miss out your chance to cast your vote as part of their fan ballot now!
