Meet 2014s First Platinum Album: Taylor Swift's "1989" + Kendrick Lamar's "Shake It Off"

It’s been 12 years since Eminem’s The Eminem Show album sold over 1.2 million copies during its first week out and  since then the Digital Age has thrown the industry a blow, causing a dip in the amount of physical albums sold. Taylor Swift however has defied the odds, her 1989 album sold 1.287 million copies its first week, making it the first platinum release of 2014.

Though a dark year for album sales, Taylor is shining bright and getting accolades from her peers as well.
