It’s hard to believe that Mac Miller is only 24 years of age with the impressive discography he has on display already. Recently releasing his 4th studio album, “The Divine Feminine” he stopped by Sway in the Morning to speak on the creation process and what’s changed in his life as of late.
Mentioning his reality TV show, “Mac Mille and the Most Dope Family” which aired for one year on MTV, Miller jokes about being angry at all the people that recognized him from that and not his music. Looking on the bright side of things though he speaks on all the positive things it brought him like going skydiving and taking in the beauty of the sky.
From peaceful sky to laid back crooning Miller and Sway get into “The Divine Feminine” and Millers transition into singing. Joking that he forgets people don’t see him as a singer because he sings all the time in the studio but never releases things he talks about dropping his fear of letting his voice ring out.
Along with fear, Miller talks about letting things like a negative frame of mind go while putting together this album. Previously creating music while faded he says creating this project with a clear mind was his new high as he took things in for what they really were.
Mentioning specific tracks he tells Sway and the crew about first getting in contact with Anderson .Paak after “Compton” was released. Reaching out via DM, Paak eventually sent Miller “Dang!” and the rest is history. Collaborating with other artists such as Ty Dolla $ign and Bilal, Miller reveals that he was blown away the most by the presence of CeeLo Green who is featured on “We.”
With Ariana hanging in the studio Sway leans into Miller about the possibility of a joint tour. Something that Miller thinks about deeply at first and then laughs saying, “I’m not getting boo’d on my baby’s stage” in reference to her selling more records than him.
