Jose Corona from the City of Oakland Declares February 4th Sway Calloway Day

The last few weeks have been incredibly special for the Sway in the Morning team. While broadcasting live from both Super Bowl 50 and the NBA All-Star game in Toronto were great experiences, the live broadcast from Sway’s hometown of Oakland took the cake.

While the Mayor of Oakland Libby Schaaf was meeting with President during the broadcast, we were blessed to have Jose Corona, Oakland’s Director of Equity and Strategic Partnerships, join the show in her place. Speaking on different incentives that the city is rolling out to encourage kids to go to college and graduate, Corona elaborates on his excitement for things to come.

All this leads up to Corona surprising Sway by declaring February 4th Sway Calloway Day in the city of Oakland. Accepting the declaration in front of his hometown crowd, Sway’s smile lights up as he promises to be back to the Bay every February 4th. Check out the interview below and let us know how you would celebrate Sway Day on Twitter @SwaysUniverse.

Icon of hip-hop culture and a pivotal part of the MTV News team, Sway has been a staple of the music-news arena for more than a decade. From giving Eminem, Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac their very first radio airplay on his local show in the mid-’90s to providing television viewers with their first good look at some of today’s hottest celebrities in music, film, fashion and sports. Sway has been there for some of music and the world’s biggest moments.
