Jessie Woo joined Sway this morning to give the lowdown on the rollout of her first EP Moods Of A Cancer. The Hatian entertainer took us back to the start of her journey at Florida International University, where she received her Broadcast Journalism and Political Science degree, leading to an unexpected path towards her current success. Moving from her hometown Miami to L.A, landing in N.Y, going through depression, and ultimately using comedy as an outlet for relief, the multi-hyphenate combines her integrity with hustle. Being featured on Wild N’ Out, BET’s “Set Trippin” and BET’s first ever HERTV Awards Red Carpet Show, Woo emphasized that her integrity, Hatian culture, and faith are what she hopes people would focus on more, rather than what’s edited on Love & Hip-Hop stating “we can control our narrative.”
Touching on Love & Hip Hop, Jessie Woo makes note on how the show propelled her to finding a deeper purpose within that experience. Recently hosting center stage at Essence, Woo was reassured that the experience of sexual abuse she shared on LHH was not in vain. Now she’s ready to embrace this new chapter of her music career. The track “Fill You Up” is the first song she wrote off the project, and explains that the lyrics are up for interpretation. Including Kompa, EDM, and R&B sounds, Moods Of A Cancer offers you a wave of motion throughout its entirety. You can check out Jessie Woo’s debut EP here, and find her @thejessiewoo on all platforms.
