For many of us in the modern time of computers and mobile devices, MP3’s we’re an important part of our day to day lives. Well today the word on the e-street is that the MP3 is dead. What this means really is that the “licensing program for certain MP3 related patents and software of Technicolor and Fraunhofer IIS has been terminated.”
The good folks over at Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits are the creators of the MP3 audio format, and with the news have officially announced that the MP3 is dead. According to Bernhard Grill, director of that Fraunhofer division, the MP3 was created as engineers were working with incomplete information about how brains process sound. Now the MP3 is obsolete when compared to newer formats such as AAC, which has become the top multimedia format. This is certainly interesting news but just another form of technology moving forward.
