Hip-Hop Passes Rock As The Most Consumed Genre in U.S.

It is hard to imagine a time when hip-hop was considered a fad. It was, is and always will be much more than that, and today hip-hop is a massive part of pop culture. Today the news comes down that hip-hop has become the most consumed genre in the U.S. The news comes down from Nielsen Music and their annual mid-year report.

The report states that Hip-Hop/R&B has pushed Rock out of the number one position for the first time while bringing in 25.1% of the United States’s music, while Rock now falls in at second with 23%. Interesting news, and with traditional album sales continuing to drop it is easy to see Hip-Hop/R&B on top for years to come.
