The Rock Hall of Fame’s primary function is “to recognize the contributions of those who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development, and perpetuation of rock and roll.” Therefore, there is no doubt that Hip – Hop and Rock & Roll artists have a lot in common being that both music genres have evolved to become some of the most rooted subcultures throughout the world today.
But, let’s take a step back to when the monumental connection was formed when Rev Run, DMC, and Jam Master J, spouted the lyrics:
“I’m the king of rock, there is none higher / Sucker MCs should call me sire”
Those same three guys (RUN DMC) teamed up with Aerosmith to break societal boundaries and created Walk This Way. Evermore creating a long standing relationship that led to albums such as Jay Z & Linkin Park’s album “Collision Course.”
In most recently, Hip Hop royalty A Tribe Called Quest, and Eminem earned their Rock Hall of Fame nominations, to be joined by fellow Emcee inductees B.I.G, PAC, Public Enemy, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash, and the Furious Five.
