With “Quality Street Music 2” hitting stores next Friday, June 22nd, DJ Drama stopped by Sway in the Morning to fill the crew in on what he’s been up to.
After watching Rich Homie Quan fumble the lyrics to Biggie’s “Get Money” last night at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors, Drama gives his thoughts on the situation saying “everybody makes mistakes.” While he agrees he shouldn’t have slipped up if he was booked perform the track, Drama thinks that the new era of artists aren’t taught the history like they should be.
Speaking on a new era of artists, DJ Wonder asks Drama about his management style of Lil Uzi Vert. Drama speaks on Uzi’s love for recording and how doing press runs and being on tour was a bit of a wake up call. He goes on to say that sometimes he bumps his head and other times he hits a big moves like when AI crossed over Jordan.
With Gucci now home Sway asks Drama if they’ve spoken. Confirming that there’s a list to get on to go see Gucci at his house, Drama says he’ll be in contact soon and he’s looking forward to his album which drops on the same day at “Quality Street Music 2.” Keeping on the topic of Gucci, Drama, Sway and Wonder try to pinpoint when Gucci-mania really took over the rap game. After some discussion they pinpoint “Freaky Girl” as the one that truly introduced Gucci to the world.
Before taking off, Drama opens up about getting Chris Brown on “Wishing” and his willingness to let smaller artists hop on the same track as him. He also jokes about not know his sales numbers compared to DJ Khaled’s as he elaborates on his friends trying to get him popping on Snapchat.
