DJ Cassidy Interview: New Music and Music History Lesson

“Do What You Love. Love What You Do.”

Getting his first turntables and a mixer at age 9, DJ Cassidy is a pure example of what can happen when you do exactly that. Admitting openly during his visit to Sway in the Morning “it was my passion, it was my hobby and eventually it became my job”. Where did that passion come from? It was sparked by “Breaking”, Afrika Bambaataa, and Grandmaster Flash – amazing start when it comes to influence.

As our conversation continued Sway and DJ Cassidy got into how he was able to grasp different genres individually and create something original with one goal in mind since a young age: Play all music for all people all over the world. His upcoming album ‘Paradise Royale‘ may just be that project.

Supported by some of the best instrumentation possible (including a few that worked with Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan and more) DJ Cassidy recently released a brand new single “Future Is Mine” featuring Chromeo off the upcoming project. Beautifully put together with the best from that era combined with the likes of Robin Thicke, Melanie FionaR. Kelly and many others to provide music lovers with an incredible body of work stretching generations.

When will the album be coming out? Those that truly love the art of music will more than enjoy this discussion.

Icon of hip-hop culture and a pivotal part of the MTV News team, Sway has been a staple of the music-news arena for more than a decade. From giving Eminem, Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac their very first radio airplay on his local show in the mid-’90s to providing television viewers with their first good look at some of today’s hottest celebrities in music, film, fashion and sports. Sway has been there for some of music and the world’s biggest moments.
