Urbanime is a culture company that empowers Black and Brown audiences by making culture the hero through our comics, culture zines, and comic media activations. Urbanime is kicking off Open Spaces, a year long initiative to fill the gap between retention and representation, partnering to create physical, virtual and mental spaces to imaging oneself in STEM, be inspired by others who have done so and gain the resources needed to move ahead.
STEM is important statistically as our STEM graduation rates lag our peers and even after graduation we face microaggressions complicating the journey. This is why we believe that it is one of the most important conversations in culture, because as technology innovates without a diverse view we will not only have to fight systematic bias but also programmatic bias.
