New Haven rapper Cambatta joined us on Sway in the Morning today to talk about psychedelics, ego death, and his latest project Smoke and Mirrors: DMT (Definitive Metagod Trilogy). Cam’s producer has dubbed him the “greatest rapper alive,” so we had him enter the valley of the hyenas to prove himself worthy of that title. We asked the citizens to call in and decide where Cambatta stands among the greats of hip-hop. Some weren’t as convinced as others. Watch his freestyle below to make your own conclusions.
Sway had Cam’ break down some of his freestyle lyrics such as, “hippies are just imitating Indians.” Cambatta says that as someone who’s half Native American and half African, he feels compelled to call out cultural appropriation.
Later, Cam’ also lists his favorite hip-hop forefathers, including Eminem, Big L, DMX, Nas, Biggie and more.
Check out more of Cambatta’s music including his six minute track “Tupac Murder Confessions” here.
