“The way you start to break down systemic racism is to start building individual relationships with people who are not like you.” If those prophetic words were actually adopted and implemented by our governments then our world would instantly change for the better. It is in those simple yet profound words of the Atlanta Emcee Killer Mike where the solution to our systemic racism problems resides.
Killer Mike has been a true leader in the fight for equality and has been crowned a lead voice for the Black community by many stakeholders and key black voices. Through his work in the community, Mike has been instrumental in the civil rights movement by leading nationwide voter registration initiatives and creating opportunities for Black businesses to thrive, educating civic leaders, community members, and youth on the importance of entrepreneurship and financial responsibility.
With years of skin in the game, and fighting social injustices, Killer Mike will be honored with the first-ever Change Maker Award at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, which is set to take place on Wednesday (Oct. 14) at 8 pm ET on NBC. The Change Maker Award highlights and recognizes musicals that have exemplified true social justice leadership all the while making positive change and stellar advocacy.
Being that this is the first-ever award, it is honorable and well deserved for the change-making Black King Killer Mike.
