“And the Heisman trophy goes to…”
Let’s be honest most of the season majority of college football fans expected to hear the name Leonard Fournette following those words but that all changed on a November Saturday night that matched up LSU against Alabama. When you say “Roll Tide” you think about a dominant style of football that the Crimson colored athletes abuse their opponents with year in and year out. Derrick Henry led them in that exact fashion piling up the carries (38) on his way to 210 yards with 3 touchdowns against the Tigers, while Fournette ended the night with only 31 yards on 19 carries. That moment changed the entire Heisman conversation.
If you have ever wondered what a running back that can lead your team for the long haul looks like, watch Derrick Henry’s Alabama highlight reel. Consistent. Powerful. Deceptive Speed. All of these qualities helped the running back rush his way to the record books breaking the legendary Herschel Welker SEC single season rushing record. It was inevitably his dependable nature that put him into elite company winning the Heisman trophy this past weekend, any team that drafts him is getting a world class athlete and young man.
