Lil TJay’s Arrest and Legal Statement
Before the gunfire erupted, a separate altercation led to the arrest of New York rapper Lil TJay (Tione Jayden Merritt). The Seminole Police Department charged the 24-year-old artist with disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
In a mugshot obtained by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, TJay was seen smiling. However, the internet quickly spun this into a massive web of rumors, linking him directly to the violence. His legal team quickly shut that down.
“We are issuing this release in regards to false rumors that Lil TJay was involved in a shooting… which [resulted] in non-life-threatening injuries to Offset,” stated Tjay’s attorney, Dawn M. Florio, on Instagram.
She continued to clarify the record with absolute certainty: “Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting. Any reporting to the contrary is false.”
A Look Back: Prior Hip-Hop Incidents
This recent event hits incredibly close to home for long-time fans. It arrives just over three years after the tragic loss of Offset’s former Migos groupmate, Takeoff. Takeoff was fatally shot in Houston, a devastating cultural milestone that the hip-hop community continues to mourn today.
Lil TJay is also no stranger to these terrifying situations. The young Bronx star survived a near-fatal shooting in New Jersey back in 2022. Seeing both artists navigate these intense situations highlights the absolute resilience of our culture.
