Only a few months ago we were watching Peyton Manning ride off into the sunset following his Super Bowl victory over fellow number one overall draft pick Cam Newton and retirement. We also lost a few great players in Marshawn Lynch and Charles Woodson, both of whom have more than stamped the game of football – Woodson, without a doubt first ballot Hall of Famer. Now it’s time to see who the new breed of future Hall of Famers, Super Bowl champions and playmakers with the 2016 NFL Draft kicking off last night.
A lot of debate regarding the two standout quarterbacks Jared Goff and Carson Wentz – who would the Rams take first as their franchise reboots in Los Angeles? That answer: Jared Goff. As we expected Wentz was immediately selected at the #2 slot held by Philadelphia. Those were the guaranteed picks but where would the remainder land?
This draft is deep talent wise and don’t be surprised when that Rookie of the Year battle is in full swing, a lot of potential on the board. Here are a few of our favorite first round selections so far, these guys should have an immediate impact on their team:
#3 Joey Bosa – Chargers | DE, when improving your defense pass rush is never a bad way to go. When given a chance to pick up someone that can stuff the run, destroy QBs and shares a work ethic that made JJ Watt a household name – you don’t pass it up.
#4 Ezekiel Elliott – Cowboys | RB, with the loss of DeMarco Murray and more recent issues with Joseph Randle their backfield just got a major upgrade from the National Championship MVP caliber star. Not to mention they picked up Jamaal Charles who will give them the 2-back balanced rushing attack they want.
#5 Jalen Ramsey – Jaguars | DB, the talented corner from Florida State should feel right at home in Jacksonville playing either corner or safety. Each draft the Jaguars have picked up some of the best in TJ Yeldon (RB), Dante Fowler (DE) and continue building the right way.
#15 Corey Coleman – Browns | WR, Although the Browns have a long way to go, they have key pieces in place with Robert Griffin III coming through free agency and now adding another Baylor alumn who is always a threat. He can take a screen 80 yards or beat you with speed 80 yards, you choose.
#19 Shaq Lawson – Bills | DE, this man child on the end is going to be a problem in the AFC East, it will be interesting to see how he does in their two matchups against Tom Brady who rarely leaves with grass stains on his jersey.
#21 Will Fuller – Texans | WR, Houston hopes to have fixed their QB issues by bringing in Brock Osweiler and what better way to do so than packaging already dangerous DeAndre Hopkins with the fastest WR in the draft, Will Fuller.
#22 Josh Doctson – Redskins | WR, after signing Kirk Cousins to a huge deal they immediately added to his arsenal. Doctson broke almost every receiving record at TCU, now gets to play alongside DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. Dear NFC East corners, good luck.
#23 Laquon Treadwell – Vikings | WR, as Teddy Bridgewater develops this gives him a safety net on tough 3rd downs. They’ll stretch the field with Stefon Diggs on the opposite side and of course ground game is covered thanks to future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson.
#30 Robert Nkemdiche – Cardinals | DT, adding more pass rush with Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu playmaking ability at corner is going to be deadly.
