From the Young, Gifted and Black organization out of Oakland, 14-year old, JWalt just hit the web with his new song, “Raymond Hawkins.” Cleverly titled after his friend, basketball player, Raymond Hawkins – ESPN ranked #6 for his position and ranked 12th on the West Coast.
“[Jwalt] is a good friend of mine and I like his music.” Raymond tells us. “Given where he is with his music and where I am with my basketball career, I thought having him do this song would be good for both of us. Plus I wouldn’t want anyone else doing my song for me!
My father passed away when I was six. I always use this as motivation. Additionally, my oldest brother went to jail 4 months ago and that is motivation for me too. The last time he got to see me play basketball was last year at this tournament. That is why I played so hard at this tournament. My mom raised me and my youngest brother on her own and that has not been easy. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to play at O’Dowd.”
Holding it down for the Bay, Jwalt juggles his music with his studies at Oakland School, where he’s studying Literary Arts.
