Chris Young

Ashley

I really enjoyed Chris' enthusiasm and how he plugged 'The Wake Up Show'. He also managed to include my name in there so that's a plus, ha!

Nicky

Judging off his tight delivery, Chris Young seems passionate, dedicated and hungry. I appreciate that. Plus, his out-of-the-ordinary background was cool.

Angel

-effortless flow
-had fun with the freestyle

Rob

Chris had a good freestyle in the opening rounds, but didn't rest on that. With this new verse Chris really showed that he can go another level. The presentation was better, the execution was tighter. Rhyming over the same beat Joey Badass and Capital Steez used for "Survival Tactics" was also a nice element, it shows that Chris can deliver current and relevant bars and adapt in a battle.

D.A. GO

Ashley

This guy is hungry, you can undoubtedly hear that in his voice. His reference to putting on war clothes was the closer...

Nicky

Love the way he starts his intro and seamlessly begins his freestyle. The way he referenced other contestants shows that he's battle-ready. Great job on presentation and holding down his city with the Oakland Raiders background. Thoroughly entertained and I want to see more of him.

Rob

I have to give D.A. GO his just due, because he actually addressed the other contestants in this battle. He sized up his competition and went in, something that I felt the rest of the MCs in this battle were lacking. While I would still love to hear him go in over an actual beat, his acapella was tight and the presentation was on point. This dude proved that he wants it.

Angel

-creative intro
-sounds like a real freestyle rapper
-aggressive content, not joking around

CSY

Ashley

He kicked things off with a punchline, then ended even stronger by telling his opponents, "my next line will have you sittin' with left eye.." (RIP Babygirl!)

Nicky

Csy is a talented MC, but I feel like his last video was better. His last line about Left Eye was my favorite part of the freestyle.

Angel

-good punchlines

Rob

The verse was good, real aggressive, battle ready. Unfortunately Csy's video in the last round was better. The wordplay was tighter and the production on the actual video was better. This one feels thrown together, the editing wasn't as good and presentation is everything. In a battle you have to elevate with every rhyme, you can't move backwards. This was good, but Csy already proved he can do better.

Dre Bill

Ashley

From start to finish he was spittin' like he was more than determined to win this competition and I really enjoyed that.

Nicky

Clever word play with Sway and Tech's name in the opening line. I felt like he was holding back though.

Rob

The rhyme was cool, the beat was cool, but not much here wowed me. I feel like I've heard that "Banks like Ashley" line 100 times before and the Kardashian line too. Dre's flow is tight, but I want to hear and see something I've never experienced before.

Angel

-great delivery

Suspect

Ashley

I enjoyed this round from him more than the first. He really showed his flow skill on this one...

Nicky

I can tell Suspect put a lot of effort in his presentation, but I feel like this is more of a song than a battle freestyle. I'd like to see more aggressiveness in his flow and delivery.

Rob

The editing on the video was pretty good, I appreciate the original beat, but this just doesn't feel battle ready. Suspect's presenation was up, but this was too laid back for a battle.

Mitch Littlez

Ashley

Mitch had that real NY flow while having fun with it and flossin' just a tad throughout his visual...

Nicky

I like that 90's NY swag in his flow, and great work on presentation.

Angel

-love the creativity
-went all out

Rob

Mitch comes back with another classic new york freestyle. This was pretty dope, gives me a more complete picture of who Mitch is as an individual. The video was fresh, presentation was better than most. The word play was up, but next time I'd like to hear Mitch over a different type of beat. He's already proved he can do the 90s NY vibe, but is that all there is to him? Overall a good job, next time out I'd like to see him step out of his box a bit.

M.O.E.

Ashley

I like how his first words were that he "came for the title," meaning that he as well is determined to win and how his last words were "guarantee when I strike there aint gone be a pen left.." - basically he started strong, then finished strong. Automatic vote from me...

Nicky

One of the few contestants that actually followed the directions to make his freestyle no longer than a minute long. He did a great job riding the beat, plus his punchlines were on point. *Facebook 'like' button*

Rob

The flow was very tight. word play was good "He's not a tiger, he's just lying about how he bought a jag" and "he thinks he's got it locked, really he's not safe" were pretty clever. The presentation was good too. M.O.E. really stepped up from the last round. This was tight.

Angel

- great sound
- very melodic

6SPD

Ashley

His laid back flow showed confidence and his verses didnt disappoint, just wish I heard more punchlines being that this is a battle...

Nicky

6spd's second half was sharp! Had me rewind and listen back to the word play. I enjoyed his smooth/confident delivery and the fact that he spit over Miguel's Kaleidoscope Dream was a plus.

Angel

-laid back delivery makes you want to hear more
-great vocal sound

Rob

6spd has dope wordplay. The flow was pretty damn tight too. It takes a lot of guts to go into a rap battle over an R&B beat, but picking the Miguel track was a good choice, it had just enough thump to it and really let the bars breathe. Very impressed by the internal rhyme structure: "And my foes know my flows is rose gold/ The new school and old soul is killin' 'em I'm so cold/ Im chillin and folks know I'm realer than most." My only real criticism is that 6spd showed that he has some editing skills with the vid, which was shot pretty well. Next time deliver us cleaner audio, hearing traffic moving in the background detracted away from your rhyme.

Yancy Deron

Ashley

The visual interpreter was cool but I would have liked to hear him over a beat. I felt there was a little too much pauses that I couldn't really catch his flow...

Nicky

I understand the creativity but I wasn't sold on his friend in the background. I like the word play and delivery, plus the presentation was great. It makes me want to see more, but with less dramatic pauses.

Angel

- Great play on words
- Interesting references

Rob

Presentation is everything and here Yancy gave us something I personally haven't seen before. The use of his man Kofisms was real entertaining. I do think that you guys could've executed better though, there were times when Kofi wasn't even in the shot, so you lose the effect of having a visual hypeman, and there were other points where his movements could've been better choreographed. Over all the rhyme was pretty damn tight, BUT when you're rhyming acapella you can't keep starting and stopping, it's bad form. Sometimes dramatic pauses are a good thing, especially in front of a live audience when you hold for an applause that you know you're gonna get, but in a filmed freestyle all of those pauses are unnecessary. Lots of potential here, but work on your execution.
