Ski Beatz and Tone Hooker of the 90s hip-hop group, Original Flavor joined us at Sway in the Morning and introduced us to New Jersey-based rapper Prince Hill. We talked about the evolution of hip-hop and the importance of being open-minded when it comes to how artists from newer generations create.
Prince Hill tells us that he wrote his first rap when he was only in third grade and attributes Biggie’s “Mo Money Mo Problem” for inspiring him to make music. We asked Hill to give us his perspective on current hip-hop culture. “It lacks a sense of people really being themselves . . . like being true to who you are, who to you were before like without . . . just real personality.”
He breaks down how his newest song “Hakuna Matata” came to be and reveals his writing process. Hill speaks about the impact that the mentorship from Ski and Tone have had on his career. His new project, JiggySZN Reloaded is now on iTunes and Spotify. Watch Hill freestyle below.
