The iconic film director, producer, writer, and actor, Spike Lee stopped by Sway in the Morning today to talk about his new upcoming film, Chi-Raq. A film where the girlfriend of a Chicago gang leader (Nick Cannon) persuades other frustrated women to abstain from sex until their men agree to end the senseless cycle of violence.

Since the trailer for this movie dropped, it received mixed reviews from fans — especially those from Chi-Raq central, Chicago. But Spike isn’t here to hear it. As a matter of fact, he passionately addressed them in a classic Kanye-fashion and broke down why they’re wrong.

While in-studio, he compared Chi-Raq to Chicago’s version of his classic film, ‘Do the Right Thing.’ And if you pay close attention, you’ll notice Samuel L. Jackson narrating this movie, as he did in ‘Do the Right Thing.’

Watch below as he delivers a strong message to rappers in Chicago, breaks down the storyline, addresses the strong black women in the film, and talks about #BlackLivesMatter.

“Sometimes the truth hurts,” Spike Lee tells Sway while closing their interview, “and we didn’t tell any lies in this film. We gotta be grown adults and deal with the truth… Let’s wake up.”

Chi-Raq opens in theaters nation-wide, this Friday, December 4th.

Spike Lee cannot make a film without conciousness infused into it…#Fact.

If ever I zip it and just listen, its when a man like Spike Lee raps conciousness up in visual mastery. I cannot wait to get a chance to see it.

A Spike Lee Joint 101: a healthy source for elevating thought through expressed evolutionary motioning of Spike Lee’s thoughts acted out.

    Can’t wait to see it.

I have not seen Spike’s latest flick, though reading people’s criticisms and reviews I get the impression Spike indirectly addresses America’s expanding and shameful *National Epidemic of Childhood Abuse and Neglect*, *Poverty*, that for more than two generations has deprived untold numbers of American kids from experiencing and enjoying a fairly happy American kid childhood with Safe Streets to travel and play on.

Child Abuse and Neglect that is primarily responsible for populating our prisons with depressed, angry, frustrated, undisciplined, unpredictable, sometimes suicidal teens and adults full of resentment for irresponsibly being introduced to a life of hardships and struggles.

*Early Childhood Abuse and Neglect* that often leads depressed, sometimes suicidal *(NY Times May 18, 2015 – Rise in Suicide by Black Children Surprises Researchers)* children to develop into depressed, angry, frustrated, unpredictable, sometimes suicidal teens and adults lacking empathy and compassion for others, though needing to vent their pent up negative emotions, often causing emotional and physical harm to peaceful people…instead of venting their anger, resentment and pain on the immature single moms and/or dads who introduced them to a life of pain and struggle by irresponsibly building a family before acquiring the practical skills, *PATIENCE* and means to successfully raise and nurture a developing young child who matures into a fairly happy responsible teen and adult with mostly fond memories of his or her childhood.

The question all concerned, compassionate Americans should seriously be asking ourselves, our elected, civil, social, community and religious leaders is, what real, substantial changes in our society’s attitude and laws need to occur to prevent abuse that often causes young kids to mature into depressed, frustrated, angry teens and adults as a result of experiencing the *emotional and/or physical trauma of an abusive childhood?*

Black (Children’s) Lives Matter; Take Pride In Parenting; End Our National Epidemic of Child Abuse and Neglect; End Community Violence, Police Fear & Educator’s Frustrations

Okay, so I finally used Red Box to get a look at The Chi-Raq Movie. Besides me being ashamed that I was pronouncing Chi-Raq wrong, I must say I really enjoyed the movie. It created awareness of black on black violence and using the mortality rates of Military Officers to really get more political and show how serious black on black violence is in our society. Though, Chicago was used and got much of the glory considering the Movies title which was taken from the Cities name, overshadowing Chi-town, it was the message on violence that really made it something to admire and pay attention to. If we want our race to continue to grow, we have to value life more. Samuel L Jackson really nailed the narration too, something else I really enjoyed.
