R.Kelly’s ongoing trail blazing is evidence of two things:
Real r&b was never dead and will never go out of style.
The Chocolate Factory man doesn’t get tired. Since the start of his career, we’ve seen that the Chicago lyricist can do just about anything; he said it himself in his 90’s classic “I Believe I Can Fly.” Yet aside from writing and producing the majority of his own music, Mr. 12 Play has also written for musical legends like Barry White, Toni Braxton, Janet Jackson, Aaliyah and more. He’s also responsible for the soundtracks behind many of your box office favorites and even wrote the Official South African World Cup song back in 2010.
We haven’t heard much from the Trapped in the Closet man since the 2013 release of Black Panties; until he killed this year’s BET Soul Train awards with an epic R.Kelly style Backyard Party.
Today he’s wowed us yet again with the release of his new album “Buffet.” Kellz stopped by our Sway in the Morning Studio and explained the meaning behind the title simply as a body of work that has something for everyone; similar to buffet style restaurants. The album features Lil Wayne, Jhene Aiko, Juicy J and more.
