What’s up citizens this ya guy Rob Markman with The Rob Report, where we break down music for the game’s hottest artists. Last week we checked out Raekwon’s FILA album and this week we’re gonna keep it in new york and give French Montana’s Casino Life 2 mixtape a spin.
French has spent the last year or so putting together his upcoming Mac & Cheese album, which he says is dropping this summer. But before then, the Coke Boys’ main dealer gave fans a hold over in the form of his new mixtape. Songs like “Off the Rip” and “Coke Boy Money” take NY’s 90s aesthetic and gives it a 2015 twist, while the tape’s opener “Hang On” finds French saluting underground big apple legends like the late Stack Bundles and the incarcerated Max B.
Alrighty then. Listen if you arent already a French Montana fan then there isn’t much on Casino Life 2 that will change your mind, but if you are a fan of the Mac & Cheese or Coke Boys series then you get it. There isn’t anything super complex here, but there’s a definite vibe throughout. And honestly, I’d be surprised if some of these dont eventually end upon French’s new album. “Moses” with Chris Brown and Migos is something that can surely dent the Billboard charts, while “I Ain’t Gonna Lie” features a familar rework on Black Rob’s “I LOve You baby” and a very dope verse from Lil Wayne.
Overall I’m going to give Casino Life 2 a 7.5 out of 10. I’m a French fan, and this is a nice holdover until the album comes. Well there goes my two cents. What do you think? Hit me on Twitter @ROBMARKMAN, I talk back.
