No More Parties in S.A.: Yasiin Bey Adresses Arrest + Announces Retirement from Music and Film

Word came through last week that Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def was being detained in South Africa after attempting to leave with a ‘World Passport’ which officials deemed a fake travel document.

Not being allowed to leave since, Bey has recorded a freestyle going with the theme of Kanye West’s “No More Parties In LA” but replacing LA with S.A.. First appearing in a tweet from Kanye West with a link to, Bey’s freestyle confirms that he is not in fear but rather frustrated with the South African government and police over being falsely imprisoned.

“Why these police up in my face? Why they raiding my place? Why I don’t feel safe? This is not an expression of fear. This is just to make things clear. My intentions are pure in coming here. And that’s for everything I love or hold dear. Homies in the building. So is my wife and my children. I committed no crime. Why is the state wasting my time?”

At the conclusion of the freestyle Bey continues to air frustrations and concerns about his current state.  Taking things one step further, Bey takes this moment to announce his retirement from music and film effective immediately with his last studio album being released later this year.

Although ‘World Passports’ have been used to leave South Africa previously, Bey’s troubles seem to stem from the combination of using this document while also having an expired Tourist Visa.  Stay tuned here for more news as it comes and you can listen to the recording in its entirety via Kanye West’s website.
