Persistence. Hunger. Dedication. Hyenas that come through SITM are normally all of the above, then there’s a special extra mmph in their hustle. Our guest JMELLE is the epitome of following through on your dreams despite the obstacles and knowing exactly what you’re trying to achieve. A lot of artists say they want to get on the show but how consistent are they in working towards it? We met him in Austin for SXSW and ended up New York City having a conversation that a lot can relate to.
Houston bred, Lafayette raised rapper JMELLE went from oil fields and being a teacher to giving us bars – letting everyone know it’s okay to get a job while you pursue your dream. It’s immediately evident how dedicated he is after not only showing up in NYC for an opportunity but willing to somehow stay an extra day if he could be given one chance to share his sounds with you…with us. Best part about this story is not just how dedicated and persistent he was in reaching that interview chair with a mic in front of him but the music is dope.
His 9-track EP ‘The Ride‘ is on the way and definitely worth picking up. Not only a great artist for our ‘Get in the Game‘ segment but a great way to hear yourself for the first time ever in his career. Check out the interview above and let us know what you think about him!
