Facebook’s New Social VR Platform Called Spaces

Another day, another new update for our social networking needs. Today we get our first look at Facebook’s New Social VR Platform Called Spaces. This new platform has officially debuted, adding a whole new layer to our social networking experience. Users will be assisted by a virtual helper while a dashboard of applications lets them access and share content on different kinds of media.

The main feature is the VR avatar, which you will be able to customize your own animated cartoon avatar by adjusting facial features yourself or allowing Spaces to automatically generate an avatar based on your existing Facebook profile photos. Spaces product manager Mike Booth spoke about the new platform, stating: “The core of Spaces, the reason it exists, is so you can feel like you’re with your friends in person,” adding “And then it’s having interesting things you can do with your friends. It’s not a chatroom where you’re just talking.” Booth went on to state that “There are people that are looking at VR, thinking it’s not for [them], because they think it’s all about gaming” going further to say “But what we’re trying to build is for everyone.” Sounds interesting. Check out the new platform immediately on Facebook and let us know what you think in the comments below.
