Everything You Need To Know About All-Star Weekend

When it was announced that the 2015 NBA All-Star game would be taking place in The Big Apple it quickly became apparent that the festivities would be taken to the next level to keep up with the city that never sleeps.  Now that everything has ended and the dust has settled we can look back on an incredible weekend not only for basketball and the NBA but also for hip-hop.  From Diddy and Snoop’s ‘Tip Off Concert’ to the ‘Roc City Classic’ hosted by Kanye West and Kevin Durant and even a surprise performance of “N.Y. State Of Mind” during the pre-game concert.  Here are the moments that you don’t want to miss!

Lets start out with the real reason for all the festivities, basketball.  Saturday brought much excitement as the likes of Victor Oladipo, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Zach Lavine taking flight in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.  Taking things back to the Space Jam days, Timberwolves rookie Zach Lavine took the crown with a Toon Squad themed dunk as well as a jaw dropping behind the back slam.

Sunday’s action took the form of the All-Star game itself with a early showing by Lebron James.  Things quickly changed as Steph Curry (with the shot, boy) and Russell Westbrook stole the show with some killer handles and incredible backboard shaking alley-oops as the West took the title 163-158.  Westbrook took home the MVP award boasting a 41-point scoreline, one point shy of Wilt Chamberlin’s All-Star record of 42 points in 1962.

The pre-game concert kicked off with Christina Aguilera singing a medley of New York themed tracks but things took a serious hip-hop turned as DJ Premier’s infamous “N.Y. State Of Mind” beat began.  Aguilera stepped aside as she introduced New York’s own Nas to perform his “Illmatic” featured track.  Dressed in army green and a fresh pair of Tims, Nas effortlessly showed his swagger and his ability to perform timeless music.

The night before the big game Diddy and Snoop showed up and showed out for their ‘Tip Off’ concert featuring the likes of Kanye, Dr. Dre, Lil Kim, Nas, The Lox, O.T. Genasis, Big Sean, ILoveMakonnen, French Montana and more the show displayed the current and past stars of hip-hop.
