No stranger to controversy; after years of backlash due to their
perceived issues with diversity, the Academy Awards has decided to invite comedian and actor Chris Rock back into the fold, confirming that Rock will resume his hosting duties when the 88th show airs next February.
Hosting the prestigious show is no easy feat. While fellow comedians like Billy Crystal, Steve Martin, Bob Hope and others have shined, others have not fared so well. It’s been over a decade since Rock held down the stage in 2005, but although his jokes proved too “risky” for the traditionally conservative academy, for others the bold funny man nailed it, bringing in a record number of viewers.

According to a statement from Academy Awards producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin,“Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian — he’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!”
With an impressive resume that includes everything from Saturday Night Live, New Jack City, Good Hair, Why Did I Get Married and more, he’s more than equipped to handle the challenge. Keeping it simple Rock explained, “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars. It’s great to be back.”
Mark your calendars. The 88th Academy Awards will air live on ABC, February 28th.
