Adrian Marcel Speaks on Stepping Away From Music For a Year, New Album + Performs Live

We caught up with bay area rapper Adrian Marcel on Sway in the Morning and got to talking about his new music, Warriors’ championship and more. In 2014, the Oakland artist broke out with hit single “2 AM” and has followed it up with a number of mixtapes, establishing himself a growing fanbase. A couple months back, Marcel released his debut project GMFU (Got Me F**** Up). The album’s single “MOBBIN” features Too $hort, Lil Boosie and M-City Jr., but for the most part it’s Marcel spitting his truth.

With an album title like that, we had to ask the emcee who had him feeling this type of way. “It was geared toward my label. It was geared toward other outside entities . . . I found myself kind of in a dark space just with everything that was going on.” So much so, that Marcel took a year hiatus from music and social media in order to get back to himself.
