A-Trak on Being a 5-Time World Champ at 18 Years Old, Working with Kanye & the Art of Scratching

Renowned DJ and record producer A-Trak stopped by Sway In The Morning and talked about his upcoming award show, his rise in the industry, and working with Kanye.

The Montreal-native began scratching records after listening to DJ Premiere, Pete Rock, and Jazzy Jeff at the tender age of 13 and won his first DMC competition by 15. Three years later he had set a record with his fifth win at the competition. He went on to tour with Kanye West and inspire the careers of Kid Cudi and more.

Now, the 35-year-old is the co-founder of Fool’s Gold records and is embarking on a new agenda. Just Blaze and Swizz Beatz’ Instagram Live DJ battle gave him the idea to expand on the fun. This gave birth to The Goldie Awards 1st Annual DJ & Beat Battle. The event will be hosted by Dave East and have both legendary and new school judges such as Mannie Fresh, Diplo, Just Blaze and more.
