By Maria-Karmina Landicho

Ready to see every big name in hip hop in one place? Well on June 28 you can do just that at the 2015 BET Awards. Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown lead the pact with six nominations and Beyonce is right behind them!

To no surprise(or possibly, to much surprise) Iggy Azalea is amongst the nominee’s — where she is caught up, running up against Azealia Banks and Nicki Minaj. And there’s only one place to see them face-off. You better believe I’m talking about The 2015 BET Awards, who are celebrating 15 years of the biggest night in hip-hop so we know it’s about to be quite the show. Here are a few nominee’s that we are rooting for, because they are our friends! And you should always show love to your friends.

Best female R&B / Pop Artist

The list is heavy with beautiful and talented women including: Beyonce, Jhené Aiko, Ciara, Rihanna

But you better believe our friend, Janelle Monae is amongst this list of talented beauties, as well and we are cheering her on. In the second half of her sit-down with Sway, Janelle Monae got him to sing with her and also openly speaks on her sexuality, listen and watch this electric lady:

Best Male R&B / Pop artist

This is a big group of heavy hitters (no pun intended) with Chris Brown, Trey Songz, The Weeknd, Usher, John Legend and our little homie August Alsina.

You may question why August Alsina in this category full of radio hitters, but we want to explain to you exactly why he is more than deserving of a nomination amongst this group of heavy weight champions. Peep the video, no introduction necessary — as August Alsina goes straight in to perform “I Luv This” in-studio:

As we mosey on down the list — we find the category for:

Best Male Hip Hop Artist

The nominee’s include some of the finest and lyrically inclined artists in the industry, with major radio hits. Obviously, as Kendrick Lamar is on the tip-top of his career, he is also on the top of this list. We also have our friend Common who has been consistently running the game for generations. And next we have “Dark Sky Paradise” Prince, Big Sean who is also running up against Drake, J. Cole and Wale.

Now instead of having us explain to you why all of our friends are deserving of their nominee’s — we will let their performances on-air with us, speak for themselves. Peep the video’s below of these 2015 BET Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Nominee’s:

Back in 2011, the young Compton MC K. Dot was in NYC for his first headlining show at SOB’s, he speaks about his writing process, Snoop passing him the torch of the West Coast, and kicked a few bars:

And to think, that this was a young Kendrick Lamar! Sheesh. A lot has happened for TDE’s finest man over his last visit in-studio, and there is no doubt that all of the West Coast (and us, of course) are rooting for you K. Dot!

Common’s 10th album Nobody’s Smiling was about to drop in less than 24 hours, and we had him talking about putting together the project, working with up-and-coming Chi-town artists and having No I.D executive produce his album. But most importantly, while in-studio, he also opened up about his situation with Drake (which has now been squashed) and threw down the illest freestyle:

Big Sean on the other hand, came through to speak on his collab. with our man Eminem, his current relationship and his thoughts on the Illuminati. Watch the full interview of this humble guy and Detroit’s finest, below:

Before the video premiere, Cole takes a moment to talk to Sway about the song’s impact on his career as well as the video’s initial conception. “Lights Please” debuted on The Warm Up but later re-appeared on his major label debut Cole World: The Sideline Story. Take a look at this rare MTV Rap fix interview J. Cole did with Sway:

Last but not least, our friend Wale was in-studio as well to chop it up with the crew. With that being said, he performed “Sunshine” live on Sway in the Morning:

Best New Artist of the 2015 BET Awards

This category may be the most anticipacted considering the words “best new artist” — here on Sway’s Universe, we are always looking for the next big shaker and trail-blazer in the game. In this list, Bobby Shmurda, Fetty Wap, Rae Sremmurd, the beautiful: Tinashe, Sam Smith and our love Dej Loaf — are all currently standing on the pedestal, waiting to be called.

Our friend, Dej Loaf likes to surprise everyone. During Sway’s SXSW latest takeover, she popped in and surprised Rich Homie Quan who is his biggest crush. We don’t blame him. She’s our biggest crush too. We’re rooting you on Dej!

We know we may have missed a few category’s and some friends to highlight, but we just want to wish all of the 2015 BET Awards Nominee’s good luck. From the team at Sway’s Universe, to all of you — sending you light and love!
