Don’t count Tidal out just yet. Despite early criticism following the launch of streaming platform Tidal, Jay Z seems to have emerged victorious, recently reaching over 1 million subscribers. Now he’s decided to celebrate in style; announcing that Tidal, in collaboration with HTC, will deliver a mega charity concert in New York this October called “TIDAL X: 1020 Amplified by HTC.”
Drawing on the brand’s deep roster of successful artists, the show is already boasting features from Beyoncé, Prince, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Hov, Damian Marley, Fabolous, Indochine, Alessia Cara, Flatbush Zombies and more, as they take the stage at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on October 20th.
According to Tidal, it’s just the first of what’s to come, as they prepare to deliver a series of “philanthropic music events… aimed at raising awareness, funds, conscious engagement, and dynamic action for transformative and positive social impact worldwide.”
In addition to matching all proceeds raised via ticket sales, Tidal will also donate to charities selected by the New World Foundation. For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed both to subscribers and fans alike via Tidal.com, which will also be accepting donations live during the concert. Tidal subscribers will be able to purchase tickets in advance starting today, while the general public will have access once they go on sale October 2nd at 12pm.
Said Hov via a rare Twitter appearance, “Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists. Tidal is platinum. 1,000,000 people and counting. Let’s celebrate 10/20 Brooklyn.”
